Biden reassures Baltic States of NATO's commitment to their defense

The Vice-President of the United States, Joe Biden, guaranteed NATO’s assistance to the Presidents of the Baltic States. Biden urged them to not take the statements of the Republican Party nominee for President of the United States, Donald Trump, seriously.

The Vice-President of the United States promised the Baltic States solid support as NATO partners. On the 23rd of August, Joe Biden stated at a meeting with the Presidents of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, that Washington considers itself fully, deeply and 100% responsible for its obligations within NATO and especially in terms of Chapter 5 the North Atlantic Treaty. According to him, assistance to its allies is a sacred duty of the United States.

At the same time, the American politician urged them to not take the statements made by Republican Party nominee for President of the United States, Donald Trump, regarding NATO seriously. According to Biden, Trump isn’t even aware of what the 5th Chapter means.

Meanwhile, the Vice-President of the United States noted that there is permanent, dominant and non-partisan agreement among Republicans as well as among Democrats on the issue that it is necessary to adhere to commitments within NATO.

In Chapter 5 of the NATO Agreement, it states that other NATO members are obligated to provide military support to any member state in the event of an attack. In connection with the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine, the Baltic States are worried about their security due to potential threats from Russia.
