Herashchenko: Russia announced its recognition of 'pseudo-elections' in Donbas

Representative of Ukraine in the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) on the issues of the Donbas Iryna Herashchenko stated that Moscow officially announced its intention to recognize the results of the so-called “elections” in the territories of the Donbas which are not under Ukraine's control during the meetings of the working groups and the Trilateral Contact Group.

“The Ukrainian side  states: the Russian Federation, which launched the pseudo-elections in the occupied Donetsk and Luhansk, “elections” that contradicted both the letter and spirit of the Minsk Agreements, today ,by issuing this statement, gave a mandate for the war that it had declared in Ukraine long ago,” said Herashchenko.

The representative of Ukraine in the humanitarian TCG subgroup emphasized that the actions of Russia and the subordinates of the Kremlin regime would lead to the breakdown of Minsk’s political and diplomatic negotiations. She said that the pseudo-elections in the Donbas in 2014 had led to the escalation of the conflict in the territory of the Donbas.

Herashchenko stressed that preparations for pseudo-elections had already been condemned by the European Union, the United States and most of the countries in the UN Security Council. “Unfortunately, this gamble will have serious political consequences in the security sphere,” she concluded.
