  • Security Service of Ukraine says it thwarted a terrorist attack in Mariupol

    The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) reported on May 8th that they found a secret location in Mariupol stocked with ammunition which may have been intended for use in a terrorist attack in the city during Victory Day celebrations, as indicated in a statement on the agency’s website.

  • Savchenko pays fine as part of her sentence

    Nadiya Savchenko has paid a 30,000 ruble ($455) fine as part of the sentence that was issued by a Russian court in March, RBC-Ukraine reported. The payment of the fine was required for Savchenko to file the documents necessary for her extradition to Ukraine.

    The authorities of the so-called Donetsk People's Republic acknowledged that inhabitants of the break-away region won't be able travel to Russia using passports issued by the self-declared republic, Rosbalt reported.

    The new US Ambassador to Ukraine will be Marie Yovanovitch, who previously served as Ambassador in Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, and in the beginning of the 2000s was Deputy Chief of Mission the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine.
