Ukrainian Security Service demands Ukrainian Internet providers block 181 sites

The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) has sent a letter to Internet providers requiring the blocking of 181 websites on the country’s territory. Strana, which has obtained a copy of the corresponding official document, has reported on this.

The list includes websites from the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR, web pages created for the Crimean authorities, many Russian news agencies, and all sub-domains of the payment service Webmoney. It also includes the largest Russian information site, ria.ru (including state media holding Russia Today), the site of the TV channel Culture, and the site of the information program Vesti on the television channel Russia 1.

In addition, the SBU ordered a block on the site of the so-called "Ukrainian People's Tribunal" a Donetsk-based public organization that "judges" the highest officials in Ukraine.

Per the SBU notice to providers, these resources are to be blocked in pursuance of President Poroshenko’s recent sanctions orders.

It is worth noting that many sites in the list are not available in Ukraine.

The Security Service of Ukraine stated that it had discovered more than three dozen sites registered in the Ukrainian domain zone where ideas of international terrorism were being propagated.
