President Poroshenko: cooperation between Ukraine and NATO has been increasing over the past four years
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko stated that he recently met with US Army General Curtis Scaparrotti, the Supreme Allied Commander Europe of NATO Allied Command Operations and commander of the United States European Command.
The President noted the bilateral cooperation and stated that cooperation between Ukraine and NATO has been increasing over the last four years. He stressed that Ukraine is strengthening its defense capabilities and reforming the security sector because accession to NATO is Ukraine’s strategic goal.
During a working visit to the Odessa region, Poroshenko also visited the American command ship Mount Whitney which is taking part in the Sea Breeze 2018 multinational military exercises. He also thanked the USA for assistance to Ukraine.
Scaparrotti succeeded General Philip Breedlove as Supreme Allied Commander Europe in 2016. On taking up his appointment, Scaparrotti called for resistance against “resurgent Russia,” showing flexibility and readiness to fight and immediate response to challenges.
Last year, Scaparrotti advocated for the supplies of lethal weapons to Ukraine to assist in combating separatists supported by Russia.
