Permanent Representative of Ukraine to UN: talks between Volker and Surkov are ‘on the verge of death’
Negotiations between Kurt Volker, a special representative of the US State Department for Ukraine, and Vladislav Surkov, Russian presidential aide, on the Donbas are "‘on the verge of death", Vladimir Yelchenko, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the US announced at a press conference in Kyiv, Hromadske reports.
“There is no unity or progress there. Progress depends on the Surkov-Volker track that seems to be ‘on the verge of death’. They have not met since January. They haven’t made any decisions,” Yelchenko said.
Ukraine's permanent representative believes that after the adoption of the UN decision to deploy a peacekeeping mission, it will take at least six months.
Surkov and Volker held four meetings: on August 21, 2017 in Minsk, on October 7 and November 13 in Belgrade, and on January 26, 2018 in Dubai. The negotiators are discussing ways to implement the Minsk agreements and the possible introduction of a peacekeeping mission to the Donbas.
The press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that Kurt Volker and Vladislav Surkov are planning a new meeting on the Donbas.
