Ukrainian Prosecutor General accused former Party of Regions MP Yefremov of 'opening the doors to the war in the Donbas'
The Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Yuriy Lutsenko, accused the former head of the Party of Regions faction in the Verkhovna Rada, Oleksandr Yefremov, of initiating the war in the Donbas. Evidence gathered by the investigation has indicated that Yefremov is directly responsible, Lutsenko said at a press conference.
"According to the evidence, not emotions, not the past, but the evidence, this man opened the door to war in our country. I am convinced of this, and it's not my emotions. This is not a publication, not slogans, this is the evidence that was given to the investigators by different people," Interfax-Ukraine quotes Prosecutor General as saying.
According to Lutsenko, there are enough witnesses in this case, whose testimonies indicate Yefremov's guilt. "We have reasons to ask for his arrest. There are factual materials provided by different individuals, not only by Landik, and even those not by Landik," the Prosecutor assured.
Earlier, a former colleague of Yefremov, Volodymyr Landik, accused the former leader of the Regionals of the "preparation of a springboard for the LPR (Luhansk People's Republic)."
"I gave testimony and will continue to keep doing it. More than a million residents of Luhansk were kicked out of their homes by Yefremov, because he led Russians into Luhansk and left the Luhansk region at their mercy. These people were robbed of everything, and thanks to Yefremov, they have nothing left," Landik said in court.
On August 1st the court arrested the former head of the Party of Regions, Oleksandr Yefremov, on suspicion of infringement of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
