Ukrainian Intelligence: Russian representatives arrive in Donetsk to determine source of information leak

The Southern Military Command of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation arrived in the separatist-occupied region of Donetsk.  This was reported on the 6th of March by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine.

According to the Ministry’s statement, representatives of the Russian military visited the area to find out why Russian leadership has failed to conceal the fact that the country is directly involved in the Ukrainian conflict.

“The main task of the committee is to establish how the real names and positions of Russian military personnel were disclosed to the public.  The committee believes that this intentional leak was made by parties hoping to exact revenge because of a personal feud.  It could also have been made by parties with the goal of an early return to Russia and in doing so, avoid any military participation,” the statement said.

According to the Ministry, the main subjects of the investigation are: the Commander of the 1st Army Corps and Major General of the Armed Forces of Russia, Valery Asapov; his deputy for managing staff issues and the Colonel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Eugene Chirkov; the commander of the 2nd separate motorized rifle brigade of the 2nd Army Corps in Lugansk, Colonel Andrey Ruzynsky; and the commander of the 9th motorized infantry regiment of the marine Corps of the 1st Army Corps, Colonel Dmitry Bondarev.

“The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine is continuing to collect facts regarding the participation of personnel of the Armed Forces of Russia in the current conflict in Donbas.  These militants will then be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the International Criminal Court,” the Ministry concluded.
