Ukraine voices protest over Putin’s visit to Crimea

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine sent a letter of protest to Russia in connection with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to the annexed Crimean peninsula, as reported by the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

"The Foreign Ministry expresses its strong protest in connection with another visit on June 24, 2017 of the Russian delegation led by Putin to the territory of Ukraine, temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation – the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, which had not been agreed with Ukraine," the statement says.

According to the press service, the Ukraine considers this visit and other "trips" by Russian officials to the Crimea a gross violation of Ukraine's state sovereignty and territorial integrity, "cynical and demonstrative disregard by the Russian of the universally recognized norms of international law."

The ministry stated that a corresponding note of protest had been sent to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

On June 24th, Putin visited the annexed Crimea, and particularly the children’s center Artek.
