Turchynov: Russia is preparing for a new offensive in the Donbas
The Secretary of National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleksandr Turchynov, believes that the Russian military is preparing for offensive actions, as demonstrated by intensive supplying of weapons and ammunition, and also the establishment of operational reserves.
The current increase in the intensity of attacks by Russian troops in the Donbas demonstrates that they are preparing for offensive actions, according to Turchynov, who visited the defense line of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Wednesday.
Turchynov stated that the highest intensity of enemy fire is recorded in Donetsk and Mariupol directions.
“The occupying forces are being intensively supplied with weapons, ammunition and fuel; and also operational reserves are being established,” the statement on the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine website reads. “It proves the Russian General Staff is preparing the offensive operation,” Turchynov states.
In addition to increased attacks on Ukrainian troop positions, the attacks are carried out “with flagrant disdain for agreements on withdrawal of heavy weaponry from the line of contact,” the official stressed.
“The enemy uses 152-mm and 122-mm artillery, 120-mm mortars, and MLRS’s [Multiple Launch Rocket System] banned by the Minsk deal, in daily shelling,” Turchynov noted.
