On March 7, 2017, the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center published data on the deployment sites for the Russian Armed Forces that took part in the conflict in eastern Ukraine during 2014-2015. It was noted that the participation of these Russian military units in the war in eastern Ukraine was confirmed by the Chief Directorate of Intelligence of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.

According to the Chief Directorate of Intelligence of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, the Russian Army units include the 28th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, the 76th Air Guard Assault Division, the 106th Guard Airborne Division, the 61st Separate Naval Infantry Brigade, the 20th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, the 21st Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, the 37th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, the 6th Separate Tank Brigade, the 200th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, the 13th Regiment of the 4th Tank Division, the 19th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, the 9th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, the 56th Separate Air Assault Brigade, the 18th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, the 33rd Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, the 31st Separate Air Assault Brigade, the 23rd Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, and the 331st Guard Airborne Regiment of the 98th Guard Airborne Division.

According to the analytical department of the Prava Sprava public initiative, in April 2015 more Russian troops entered Luhansk, which were composed of soldiers of the so-called 15th ‘peacekeeping brigade,’ which is usually deployed near Roshchinsky in the Samara region of Russia.

At the time, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel-General Viktor Muzhenko, confirmed the presence of Russian military units in Ukraine, including the 15th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade. "We know that even today regular units of the Russian army remain in Ukraine. For example, the 15th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 2nd Army of the Central Military District, the 8th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, the 331st Guard Airborne Assault Regiment of the 98th Guard Airborne Division from Kostroma, and others," the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.

In addition, in May 2015 the analytical department of the Prava Sprava public initiative released information on areas in the Luhansk region where units of the Russian Armed Forces that were directly involved in the war in eastern Ukraine, were located. "In the Luhansk region, particularly in Heorhiyivka in the Lutuhinsk district, Prava Sprava recorded the presence of detachments of the 31st Separate Guard Order of the Kutuzov 2nd Class Air Assault Brigade (permanently deployed to Ulyanovsk).”

The 35th Separate Guard Motorized Rifle Brigade (military unit 41659) is located in Bryanka, though its permanent deployment is in the town of Aleysk in Altai Krai.

In Luhansk, and in the city of Novosvitlivka in the Krasnodon district in the Luhansk region, units of the 7th Guard Mountain Air Assault Division are stationed," the report of Prava Sprava says.

It should be noted that the presence of units of the 15th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Armed Forces of Russia in the occupied areas of the Luhansk region were not reflected in the information provided by the Chief Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, that was published by the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center, despite the fact that this information was confirmed by the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Court hearings regarding claims made by Ukraine against Russia are currently ongoing in the International Court of Justice in The Hague with the intent to punish the Russian Federation for aggression against the Ukrainian people.
