Poroshenko: Macron will become an ally of Ukraine in the Normandy format talks

President Petro Poroshenko is hopeful that the election of Emmanuel Macron to the French Presidency will bring more effective work to the Normandy Four, as he wrote on his Facebook page.

"With this victory, Ukraine has found a reliable ally in the Normandy group in the struggle to restore our sovereignty and territorial integrity," Poroshenko said.

The President also thanked the winner of the election for "an uncompromising support of Ukraine in dealing with Russian aggression," although it remains unclear what he meant, as there has not been any publicly expressed support by Macron.

In addition, Poroshenko noted that the defeat of the far-right Le Pen also became a victory for the whole of Europe. "The choice of the French people is a clear testament to the victory of a free Europe over the alternative nationalist Europe," he said.
