Poroshenko informed the US Congress delegation about the situation in the Donbas

President Petro Poroshenko informed the delegation of the House of Representatives of the US Congress about the situation in the Donbas, ongoing provocations and violation of the ceasefire by separatists. This was reported on the President’s website.

The US delegation included Congressmen Michael McCaul, Will Hurd, Martha McSally, Kenny Marchant, Clay Higgins, Kathleen Rice and Dutch Ruppersberger.

Poroshenko thanked the representatives Congress’s bipartisan support of Ukraine in counteracting ongoing Russian aggression, strengthening Ukraine's defense capability and carrying out necessary internal reforms.

"During the meeting, the need was stressed to maintain and strengthen international sanctions against the Russian Federation until it fully implemented the Minsk agreements and the restoration of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, including Crimea," the message says.

Poroshenko also expressed the hope that the US Congress will actively support Ukraine in the future, including through the adoption of relevant laws and resolutions.

The parties also discussed strengthening of cooperation in increasing the defense capability of Ukraine to oppose Russian aggression.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump signed the US government budget for 2017 fiscal year that provides for the allocation of $560 million of assistance for Ukraine.
