Norway to allocate 4 million euros for humanitarian aid to Ukraine

Norway will allocate about 40 million kroner (more than 4 million euros) for humanitarian aid to Ukraine.  This was reported on the 8th of February by the press service of Norway’s government.

“The humanitarian situation in some regions of Ukraine is very serious.  Five million people need help, including 1.5 million internal migrants.  Children and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to the cold weather of winter,” said the State Secretary at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tote Hattrem.

Half of the amount will go to the Norwegian Refugee Council, which is already supporting eastern Ukraine.  The remaining 20 million kroner will be distributed among a number of organizations.  These include the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Organization for Migration.

Hattrem will visit Kiev between the 7th and the 9th of February.  He will meet with representatives of the Ukrainian administration, of civil society, as well as both Norwegian and international organizations working within the country.

“Norway intends to become a long-term reliable partner of Ukraine.  However, our support will not be without conditions.  The future of Ukraine is dependent on its ability to implement reforms.  This is difficult in any situation, but more so when the country faces armed aggression,” Hattrem added.
