NATO will provide Ukraine with 1 million euros worth of demining equipment

The North Atlantic alliance will provide the State Emergency Service of Ukraine with material and technical assistance worth more than 1 million euros specifically for demining operations. This was reported by the First Vice-Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada and Co-chairman of the Ukraine-NATO Inter-Parliamentary Council, Irina Herashchenko, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

"The Alliance has decided to provide material and technical assistance to the State Service of Ukraine for Emergencies in the amount of more than 1 million euros for the development of demining operations," Herashchenko said. She noted that she is in favor of the consideration by the Rada at the next plenary week in the first reading of the draft law on humanitarian demining.

She also noted that NATO countries support Ukraine in the treatment and rehabilitation of servicemen. “398 of our soldiers and officers were rehabilitated in NATO countries,” Herashchenko stressed.

This new support initiative may have built on another initiative during the summer of 2016, when NATO launched a trust fund for demining the Donbas.
