Herashchenko: 648 people are still missing in Ukraine; Red Cross should be allowed to search for them
During a meeting with the Deputy Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the Polish Sejm, Małgorzata Gosiewska, the First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Iryna Herashchenko, stressed that 648 people are still missing in eastern Ukraine, as the search continues.
"Our task is to look for these people. The Red Cross should be allowed to conduct search operations in the occupied territories," the press service of the Verkhovna Rada quoted Heraschenko.
According to her, "it's impossible to tie amnesty to the release of the hostages, since amnesty is not carried out until the fighting has stopped."
Herashchenko informed President Poroshenko that "Ukraine has friends who are spreading awareness of the situation in the east." At the same time, she called the study "War crimes of Russia in eastern Ukraine”, carried out by volunteers under the leadership of Gosiewska, an outstanding event and pointed out that there is "not only support for Ukraine, but also proof of justice of the values that underpin the European Union."
In her opinion, "we cannot talk about the termination of sanctions against Russia, as the Russian Federation did not comply with conditions of the Minsk Agreements."
In turn, Gosiewska said that she collects data about the hostages and torture against them and believes that "all this factual material should go to the courts in The Hague."
The report by the Polish volunteers was presented by MEPs in Brussels on April 5. It is based on the testimonies of more than 60 victims.
