Germany sees no reason to lift sanctions on Russia

Most politicians in Germany see no reason for lifting the sanctions against Russia. This was said by the German Ambassador to Ukraine, Ernst Reichel, in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

According to him, a “broad consensus” in this spirit was reached at the political level. This view is not only shared by the party of the left forces, which is the former Communist Party of East Germany.

Some entrepreneurs in economic associations also have differing opinions on the extension of sanctions against the Russian Federation.

“In Germany, we have an open pluralistic debate where everyone can speak up, and where different opinions exist,” Reichel explained.

He also said that Ukraine should not give any grounds for suspicion on the incomplete implementation of the Minsk Agreements. “This is exactly what Russia wants to convey to our society, that Ukraine is to blame for the non-fulfillment of the Minsk Agreements,” Reichel added.

In August, it was reported that Germany had stated that it is not expected that the sanctions against Russia will be lifted.
