Scheduled power cuts to occur in Sevastopol

The authorities of annexed Sevastopol claim that they are preparing blackout schedules due to the repair work on the power bridge from neighboring Russia beginning on April 11th.

"From April 11 to April 17 the repairs will begin in Crimea. As a result, the availability of electricity will significantly decrease again. We are preparing to introduce a schedule for temporary electric outages," said the commercial director of Sevastopolenergo, Vladislav Yakimovich as reported by the press service of the Moscow-controlled government of Sevastopol.

The city’s Emergency Response Center has reported that the northern part of the city is already without electricity due to an accident. "Yesterday a car hit an electricity pylon. All wires are already disconnected, the damaged electricity pylon will be removed," the center reported.

Crimea expects at least a week of blackouts. A complete halt of electricity from the power bridge from neighboring Russia is also possible.

The electric power from continental Ukraine has not been delivered to the peninsula since December 30, 2015. The contract on electrical supplies to the Crimea which has been annexed by Russia since the beginning of 2014, expired on December 31, 2015.
