EU prepares new sanctions for ‘elections’ in eastern Ukraine
The European Union intends to impose sanctions on those who are politically responsible for the holding of so-called elections in the Donbas. Specific decisions are expected soon.
The so-called elections organized by pro-Russian separatists in the Donbas, will in all likeliness entail new sanctions from Brussels. The EU High Representative for foreign policy and security Federica Mogherini, after consulting with foreign ministers of EU countries, stated that the EU adheres to a unified position: not recognizing the November 11th vote.
According to her, “targeted measures” must be taken in the coming days or weeks. According to data from diplomatic sources, this may include, for example, a ban on entry into the EU or seize the property of persons who are politically responsible, the DPA agency reports.
Immediately after the “elections” in the Donbas, the European Union condemned them as illegitimate and stated that they undermine the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
