Ukrainian Ambassador denies the US has reduced aid to Ukraine

At a press conference in Kyiv, Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Valeriy Chaly refuted statements that Washington is reducing support for Kyiv.

“I have heard these claims in Kyiv and Washington that the Americans are reducing aid [to Ukraine]. Do not believe this. Look at the facts, they tell the opposite story. Currently, Ukraine is receiving direct financial assistance in the sum of about $620 million dollars, one of the largest amounts in the whole world,” the ambassador said.

Chaly noted that every year there is an increase in aid from the Pentagon. Currently, it is $200 million and next year it will be $240 million.

“This is a huge amount for the American taxpayers. Why do they do this? Not for us. They do it for themselves, realizing that Ukraine is on the front line of protecting the world order, and if they invest this money now, they will not pay billions or tens of billions of dollars in the future. This is my point of view,” he added.

In late July, the US signed a declaration, promising to never recognize the Crimea as part of Russia.
