Russian and US army chiefs of staff discuss situation in Syria
Russian Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces General Valery Gerasimov and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Armed Forces General Joseph Dunford discussed Syria in a telephone conversation and agreed to continue contact, reported the Russian Defense Ministry.
“On March 21, a telephone conversation took place between the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, the First Deputy Defense Minister of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Valery Gerasimov, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Armed Forces, General Joseph Dunford,” the Defense Ministry’s report said.
“Issues related to the situation in the Syrian Arab Republic and other current issues of mutual interest were discussed,” the Ministry reported.
According to the Ministry of Defense, “Gerasimov and Dunford agreed to continue bilateral contact.”
On March 13, General Gerasimov spoke about the US preparations to carry out missile and bomb strikes against Damascus. According to him, the Russian Defense Ministry is ready to take retaliatory measures against a possible missile strike by the United States if there is a threat to the Russian military stationed there.
