U.S. strengthens position near Syrian town of al-Tanf because of possibility of Assad army offensive

The U.S.-led coalition has strengthened its position in the al-Tanf area in Syria in connection with “a possible threat from Syrian government forces,” Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis said in a regular briefing.

In mid-May, a coalition led by the United States struck at positions of Syrian troops in the region of al-Tanf within the established de-escalation zone. According to the Pentagon, “the commander on the ground felt that these forces posed a threat to the coalition forces.”

Earlier, the representative of the coalition told RIA Novosti that “after repeated demands to retreat, which were not heeded, coalition planes conducted a demonstration flight and fired warning shots before they fired and destroyed a tank and construction equipment.”
