Poroshenko and Tillerson discuss strengthening of US-Ukraine strategic partnership

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko had a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, the Ukrainian president’s press service reports.

The politicians discussed the outcomes of the phone conversation in the Normandy Format on April 18, and the results of the Russian-American negotiations in Moscow on April 12 during Tillerson’s visit. “Matters of strengthening the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the US were discussed, as well as a schedule of bilateral contacts, including the contacts of the top officials,” the press service’s report states.
Furthermore, Poroshenko thanked Tillerson for the “firm and unyielding position of the US” in support of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian president also expressed his condolences to the friends and family of the American representative of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine who was killed in the Donbas on April 23.

“The sides expressed concern regarding the dangerous development of the situation in the Donbas and stressed the importance of Russia implementing the Minsk agreements, especially the elements relating to security,” the report states.
