The words of U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson with regard to “Russian aggression in Ukraine” have aroused bewilderment in Moscow. This was stated in a message on the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"We regret to report that such an assessment was announced the day after the meeting of the Russia-NATO Council at the level of the Permanent Representatives," the statement said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry believes that NATO puts “its ideological dogma" above real work on solving global problems.

"Only a radical change in the very nature of this alliance, hopelessly stuck in its own past, can give a chance for changes for the better in the sphere of European security," believes Moscow.

Rex Tillerson spoke about the fact that NATO plays a key role in counteracting Russian aggression at a meeting of the foreign ministers of the alliance in Brussels on March 31.

"The NATO alliance is fundamental to countering both nonviolent, but at times violent, Russian agitation and Russian aggression," Tillerson said then.

The State Department noted that such actions are necessary in order to "push Russia to end its aggression against its neighbors, and to fulfill the Minsk commitments with regard to Ukraine."

Tillerson also said that sanctions against Russia would remain until the return of the Crimea to Ukraine and the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

Tillerson has already met with his colleagues from six countries, including Ukraine and Turkey, but did not plan a visit to Russia.
