Media: Russia deploys special forces to southern Syria to support Assad’s offensive

The Syrian agency Al Masdar News, citing sources in the country’s army, reported on the transfer to the southern regions of groupings from the Airborne Forces (VDV) and the Special Operations Forces of the Russian Federation. The agency reports that the Russian military will support the offensive by Bashar al-Assad in the province of As-Suwayda.
According to the agency, these Russian forces "will perform the functions of military advisers, and will also help the Syrian government troops to prevent another aggression by American and Jordanian military forces wedged into the provinces of Suwayda and Homs".

According to unconfirmed reports, the Russian military units in the south of Syria may operate under the control of the headquarters of the 31st Independent Guards Airborne Assault Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces. It is reported that these units  are tasked with “providing direct support to the Syrian troops in driving out militants and restoring control over the southern border of the republic.”

There are no comments from the Russian Ministry of Defense in connection with this information.
At the same time, as Lenta.ru news outlet writes, the day before, a video appeared on the internet that documented the actions of Russian helicopters in the area of al-Tanf. Located there is a training base of rebels, who are supported by the United States.
