Commander of Russian Mediterranean flotilla: Nobody dares to fly over us

According to the commander of the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, captain Sergey Artamonov, the naval strike group of the Russian Navy is maneuvering in the eastern part of the Mediterranean.

“The ships of the strike group have moved into the designated area in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea, near the western shores of Syria,” said Artamonov in his interview with “Saturday News” on the Russia 1 TV channel.

The captain of the other ship of the flotilla, the Pyotr Velikiy battle cruiser, Vladislav Malahovsky, said that our “potential partners have to see who we are and what we represent.”

“Nobody dares to fly over us, because of the power these two cruisers (Admiral Kuznetsov and Pyotr Velikiy) represent. The sorties are carried out from the deck of the aircraft carrier. They are conducted daily for up to 4 hours in a row,” stated Malahovsky.

Earlier a source on the Russian military said to Russia’s Interfax news agency that the Russian naval strike group in the Mediterranean is preparing to launch “strikes on terrorist targets and is ready to start the operation at any moment”.

According to the source, the reconnaissance ships located near the shores of Syria “are conducting reconnaissance both in the shore zone and deep inside the Syrian territory.”

The Russian Mediterranean flotilla consists of the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier, the Pyotr Velikiy battle cruiser, the Admiral Grygorovich frigate, as well as the Severomorsk and Vice-Admiral Kulakov large anti-submarine ships.
