Russian ships are preparing to strike Aleppo

"Russia's newest frigate, the Admiral Grigorovich, has replenished its supplies in the Syrian port of Tartus and is ready to carry out its tasks within the Russian navy group,” the Russian Interfax news agency reported, citing a source in military circles.

“The Kalibr cruse missiles onboard the ship allow it to hit militants across the entire Syrian territory,” the source of the agency stated.

The source said that after the visit to Tartus the preparations are underway onboard the ship: the radio-electronic missile system is being tested, the crew is training for the forthcoming mission.

“The deck aviation from the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov is carrying out flight over Syrian to get familiar with the terrain and the situation on the ground. The flotilla is ready to launch strikes on the militants at any moment,” the agency’s source stated.

Earlier the sources in Pentagon noted that the strike group of the Russian Navy, which includes the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft cruiser, the Pyotr Velikiy battle cruiser and two destroyers, moved forward to the area south-east of Cyprus within potential striking distance of Aleppo.

As the Pentagon noted, "there are signs that the deck-based Admiral Kuznetsov aviation is going to become a part of some greater combined forces that will be involved in an operation in the Syrian city of Aleppo the current week”.
