Israel calls on the EU to restore sanctions against Iran

The EU countries should join the U.S. and resume the sanctions regime against Iran, said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He warmly approved the decision of the U.S. President Donald Trump, who on Monday signed the decree to renew economic sanctions.

"I congratulate President of the United States Donald Trump on an important decision to impose sanctions against Iran. I call on the European countries that are talking about stopping Iran, to join this decision, “Netanyahu wrote on Twitter.

The Prime Minister called the resumption of sanctions "an important moment for Israel, the United States, the entire region and for the world", which, he said, "symbolizes the determination to curb Iran's regional aggression and its plans to acquire nuclear weapons."

Earlier, the representative of the White House told reporters that the new decree is a continuation of the previously announced Trump’s policy on putting pressure on Tehran. Sanctions will be renewed in two stages. The first stage will begin as early as August 7.
