USAID to give Ukraine $125 million for the development of Donbas economy

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will allocate $125 million to Ukraine for the development of Donbas, the organization’s Ukrainian branch stated on Facebook.

According to the statement, the new assistance will be announced during a press conference in Sloviansk by the Assistant Administrator and Chief of Staff for USAID’s Bureau for Europe and Eurasia, Brock Bierman; U.S. State Department Special Envoy for Ukraine, Kurt Volker; and the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch. The announcement will reveal “the provision of additional assistance in the amount of $125 million for the Donbas.”

“This additional technical assistance will be aimed at further stabilization and consolidation of Ukrainian communities in the region, enhancing the stability of the local economy and accelerating its development,” the Agency’s message states.

In March, the United States confirmed the allocation of $620 million in financial aid to strengthen the security of Ukraine. From the Pentagon, Kyiv will receive $200 million in military and technical aid; another $420.7 million will be provided by the State Department. In the same month, it was announced that the European Commission planned to allocate €32.5 million for the development of Ukrainian regions. The allocation of these funds to Kyiv is scheduled for 2018-2020.
