Washington: USA will continue to exert pressure on Russia with sanctions
The U.S. State Department explained the updated sanctions issued by the Ministry of Finance on October 31, saying that it will work with its allies on the issue of pressuring Russia with sanctions, RIA Novosti reported.
“We will work with our allies and partners in the implementation of these sanctions in order to impose costs on the Russian government, while seeking to avoid unforeseen negative impacts on others,” the State Department said.
On October 31, the U.S. Treasury Department banned individuals and legal entities in its jurisdiction from conducting business with Russian companies in deepwater, arctic and shale energy projects after the end of January 2018.
The State Department stressed that with these sanctions, the United States is calling on Russia to observe the Minsk-2 agreements, withdraw its troops from the Crimea, and stop “illegal cyberactivity.”
On October 27, the U.S. State Department published a list of Russian companies, cooperation with which could become the basis for secondary sanctions. It includes such organizations as the FSB, SVR, GRU, as well as 33 companies.
The department stressed that the U.S. will selectively apply measures against other countries and companies that cooperate with Russian companies on the sanctions list.
