US is ready to sell new batch of Javelin anti-tank missile systems to Ukraine
Chargé d'Affaires of US in Ukraine William Taylor said that Washington and Kyiv are discussing the possibility of supplying Ukraine with a new batch of anti-tank Javelin missile systems, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
"We are ready to sell these weapons to Ukraine. The two governments are working on the agreement," the diplomat said.
Besides, Taylor commented on a call of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to Putin after the death of four Ukrainian soldiers in the Donbas during a ceasefire. "This step demonstrated the moral advantage of Ukraine in this war. Ukraine is trying to end the war. We want Russia to do the same," the American diplomat assessed the actions of the Ukrainian President. However, he did not support the idea of Ukraine's withdrawal from the Minsk Group negotiations after the incident.
The US decided to supply Ukraine with weapons in December 2017. In the spring of 2018, the United States sold 37 Javelin anti-tank systems for $47 million. Thirty-five armored Hummers arrived in Ukraine in May, and in April the National Guard of Ukraine received 500 RSRL-1 grenade launchers. According to Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak, the United States assisted provided $400 million worth of military assistance to Ukraine.
