Ukrainian Interior Minister: 131,000 police officers will ensure security during the presidential elections

According to the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, over a hundred thousand police officers will ensure security duting the Ukrainian presidential elections on March 31.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs will provide 131,000 policemen to ensure public safety during the election. I hope that the SBU [Ukrainian Security Service] will help us. Of course, the police had thirty thousand more officers in 2014, but despite this, we are ready to protect the electoral process,” stated Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov at a live broadcast on the TV Channel Ukraina.

Avakov explained that the Ukrainian law enforcement system is under pressure but is ready to ensure the security of elections. “Pressure comes from the current situation that occurs every five years when we have to make a choice… and the more transparent the elections, the more legitimate the president. Therefore, the better life will be,” said the Minister.

The Presidential Election of Ukraine will be held on March 31. On February 8, the Central Election Commission completed the registration of 44 candidates.
