Ukraine detains Russian vessel for violating sanctions
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) identified a Russian vessel in the port of Kherson that belongs to a company included in the sanctions list of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC), wrote the Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Borys Babin on his Facebook page.
It is reported that on August 10, the Mechanic Pogodin vessel entered the Port of Kherson. According to the online global ship tracking service MarineTraffic, the Mechanic Pogodin vessel arrived from the city of Volgodonsk in Russia and currently, moored in Kherson.
"I am certain that it will not leave this port any time soon. I am also sure that this time nobody will be able to ruin this case. Since the sanctions issues and the Criminal Code matters are different things - the control of this case is within the limits of our authority, “wrote Babin.
The management of the SBU has not yet commented on this information. On May 2, the Council of National Security and Defense of Ukraine introduced new sanctions against Russia. The NSDC did not specify the names of the citizens and companies in question. In addition, the NSDC extended the sanctions imposed in previous years.
Earlier, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine initiated an appeal to the NSDC to prohibit the entry of Russian ships into the internal waters of Ukraine.
Since July 2014, the government of Ukraine has officially ceased the operation of all ports of the peninsula, annexed by Russia. Crimean harbors are closed for international shipping by Ukraine.
