Ukraine detains a large Russian cargo ship in the port of Mariupol

Ukraine has detained more than 3 thousand tons of products of the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant, located on the territory of the Donbas, which is not controlled by Ukraine, stated the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko on Facebook.

“This is our response to sanctions. In the port of Mariupol, more than 3 tons of products of the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant, which is under the occupants’ control, were captured. The products were being transported by a ship under the flag of Liberia from the Russian port to Belgium,” Lutsenko wrote.

Lutsenko said that those involved in the transportation of this cargo will be prosecuted under Ukraine's Criminal Code for financing terrorism.

The Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant stopped its operation in February 2017. Later, the plant was taken under the external control of the so-called Luhansk People's Republic. In December 2017, smelter furnace No. 5 was put into operation there. The plant resumed its work. In February of this year, it was reported that a second smelter furnace was launched.
