Ukraine and Romania conduct their first joint naval exercises
Ukraine and Romania have conducted the first joint naval exercises on the Danube River between Izmail and the Romanian port of Brăila, reported the press-service of the State Border Service of Ukraine.
For three days, marines and marine border guards of both countries practiced joint actions on ensuring security for civilian traffic, rescue and inspection operations, and maneuvers in river navigation.
"Two Navy ships and a Romanian border police boat, a training boat and two small armored artillery boats from the Ukrainian Navy, and a ship and two small boats of the maritime security of the state Border Service of Ukraine took part in the drills,” the State Border Security of Ukraine stated.
"The exercises are aimed at strengthening regional security and improving cooperation between the fleets of Ukraine and Romania. These maneuvers will enable us to maintain stability in the region, ensure high-quality training of our forces and implement standards of cooperation between the marines,” Andriy Kurylenko, the deputy head of the Combat Training Department of the Ukrainian Navy Command said.
On September 3, the Rapid Trident 2018 large scale military exercises started in Ukraine and the Storm 2018 military exercises were carried out the week before that.
