Leader of Ukraine's Fatherland party accuses President Poroshenko of planning to disrupt Presidential Elections

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko is planning to disrupt the country’s Presidential Elections by unleashing a massive war in the Donbas, said Batkivshchyna (Fatherland) Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko on Pershyi TV news. The video was posted on her Facebook page.

“He wants additional territories of Ukraine to be seized. Therefore, he wants to impose martial law and not to hold elections at all,” the politician stated.

She also noted that it is an extremely dangerous plan to escalate the situation in the Donbas to thwart the elections and retain power. She added that Poroshenko is now in negotiations with the representatives of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics.

The leader of the DPR, Alexander Zakharchenko denies Tymoshenko’s statement regarding negotiations with the President of Ukraine, RIA Novosti reported. Zakharchenko noted that Poroshenko does not need to negotiate with the DPR and LPR leaders to escalate the conflict. He also said that the dialogue with Kyiv is “a matter for the future.”

Last June, Tymoshenko stated that she was planning to run for President of Ukraine. After winning the presidency she intends to hold a referendum to adopt a new constitution that would turn the country into a Parliamentary Republic.

The Ukrainian Presidential Elections will take place in March 2019.
