The Netherlands ready to accept Saakashvili

The former Georgian president and leader of the Ukrainian party "Rukh novykh syl" Mikheil Saakashvili, if he decides so, will be able to obtain Dutch citizenship and the right for residence, as he is married to a Dutch citizen, the Foreign Minister of this country, Halbe Zijlstra, confirmed on Friday.

"He is married to a Dutch citizen, and according to the Dutch legislation he can get a passport if he applies," the Dutch television and radio company NOS quotes Zijlstra as saying.

Saakashvili is married to 48-year-old Sandra Roelofs, who is a native of the Dutch Terneuzen. The couple has two sons.

The day before, Saakashvili said that he has proposals for citizenship from several European countries, but he intends to defend his rights in Ukraine.
