German Foreign Minister: the controversy between the US and Russia is the greatest threat to the world

Normalization of relations between Russia and the United States is necessary to improve the world situation, stated the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany, Sigmar Gabriel, in an interview published in the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag on Sunday.

"The completely undermined relationship between the US and Russia is the greatest threat to world peace. If North Korea is able to get nuclear weapons, then other countries will follow it. Only the US and Russia can jointly prevent further proliferation of nuclear weapons. If the relations between Washington and Moscow do not improve again, then our children will grow up in a dangerous, unregulated world, filled with nuclear weapons," Gabriel claims.

According to him, the democratic world order faces a serious threat. "The US, which used to be the guarantor of liberal values, said goodbye to this," said Gabriel. He explained that the world finds itself on the brink of a new arms race due to worldwide distrust.
In addition, the minister spoke in favor of making the Federal Republic of Germany more active in assuming the role of international mediator.
