European Union: creation of an Anti-Corruption court is one of the most important reforms for Ukraine

The European Union considers the creation of the Anti-Corruption Court in Ukraine to be one of the most important reforms for the country, as stated by the head of the Support Group for Ukraine in the European Commission, Peter Wagner, during the international round table "Ukraine: Prospects for 2018."

"If we talk about what is expected from Ukraine outside the state itself, then we are talking about several agendas. At the moment, the creation of the high Anti-Corruption court is critically important," the representative of the European Commission said.

Wagner approved the latest initiatives and efforts of President Petro Poroshenko to promote the draft law on the Anti-Corruption Court.

"The second important issue, perhaps more technical, is the implementation of the Agreement on the Ukraine-EU Association to ensure economic growth. This is very important before elections, so that people could feel the benefits of carrying out reforms," Wagner stressed.

He hopes that the bill, supported in the first reading, will not be accepted completely, because it could negate the work of the ProZorro public procurement system.

Wagner recalled that an important indicator for the EU is the continuation of the program of cooperation between Ukraine and the IMF as a prerequisite for continued macro-financial assistance to Kyiv from the EU, and "the Anti-Corruption court is an important issue in the framework of this program."

At the same time, the representative of the European Commission stressed that the international community would welcome and positively assess the completion of the electoral reform in Ukraine before 2019.

The European Union officially criticized the presidential bill on the Anti-Corruption Court, which contradicts the promises of Kyiv and the recommendations of the Venice Commission.
