Russian warships approach Latvian borders
Ships of the Russian Armed Forces were spotted again near the Latvian border, BNS reported, referencing a report by the Latvian National Armed Forces.
“In a special economic zone of Latvia, 12 nautical miles from the territorial waters of the country, Russian ships (SB-121 and Kashtan classes) were spotted,” the report stated. “Also, 6.5 nautical miles from territorial waters, a landing ship of the Ropucha class appeared.”
Additionally, inside Latvia’s economic zone, a towboat of the Goryn class, a towboat Anatoly Pticyn and a frigate Bespokoinyi 620 class of the Modern Navy of Russia were identified on Friday, appearing at a distance of eight nautical miles from the territorial waters of the State.
It was reported in April that Latvia had expressed concerns about Russian missile firing training, which had been conducted for the first time on the Russian-Latvian border. Riga authorities noted that the missile firing training of the Russian Federation in the Baltic Sea does not violate international obligations, but does create tension in the region.
