Putin visits annexed Crimea

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in the annexed Crimea to have a number of working meetings and take part in a meeting of the State Council Presidium, reported press Secretary of Russian President Dmitry Peskov.

“The president will most likely stay longer here to hold a number of meetings with the members of the government, deputy prime ministers, and the leadership of the Kremlin administration,” the Russian news agency TASS quoted Peskov.

He added that after this kind of meetings, "everybody gets together, and the president traditionally has a meeting with the [government members]."

Peskov said that Putin will gather a meeting of the presidium in the Mriya Resort & SPA located approximately 20 km from Yalta. This hotel appeared on the US sanctions list due to its connection with the Russian Sberbank, which was also included in the list of sectoral sanctions on September 12, 2014.

Putin’s latest visit to the annexed Crimea took place on August 4, when he attended the festival “Opera in Sevastopol”. After Putin’s visit, the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine sent a protest note to the Russian Federation.

On July 29, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev visited Sevastopol. Local media reported that Medvedev’s participation in official events was only a formal reason for his visit. The real purpose of his arrival was to discuss the failure of the tourist season, the deplorable state of the infrastructure, as well as the “disappearance” of two billion rubles allocated for the construction of water treatment facilities.
