Putin fires five generals and two prosecutors

Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a decree on May 3 that effectively fired five generals of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the Investigation Committee (IC), as well as two prosecutors. In addition, he appointed 16 people to the posts. The text of the decree was published on the Official Internet Portal of Legal Information.

The prosecutor of Udmurtia, Sergey Panov and the prosecutor of the Tula region, Alexander Kozlov were dismissed from their posts. Others relieved of their posts included the head of the Investigative Directorate of IC for the Perm region, Lieutenant General of Justice Olga Zabbarova, the head for the Ryazan region, Major General Vladimir Mahleidt, and the chief of the Main Directorate of MIA for the Perm region, Lieutenant-General Viktor Koshelev.

Also, among the dismissed officials, there were the Chief of the Directorate of the MIA for the Murmansk region, Major-General Igor Batalov, the deputy head of the Main Directorate of the MIA for the Krasnodar Territory, Colonel Yuri Kuznetsov, and the first deputy head of the Forensic Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Major General Ivan Lukin.

Among Putin’s new staff, Colonel of Internal Military Service Alexander Fedorov was appointed as a head of the Main Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service the Sverdlovsk Region, who earlier headed the Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service in the Tambov region.

The Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Penza region is now headed by Colonel Sergei Shchetkin, former deputy head of the Directorate of Ministry of Internal Affairs in Magadan region. Colonel Dmitry Ilychev heads the MIA in the Khabarovsk Territory though he used to serve in the Altai Krai. Sergei Lebedev was appointed as a head of the Directorate of the MIA of the Ryazan region.

Colonels of Justice Alexander Biryukov and Dmitry Kakoshin became deputy chiefs of the Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Rif Gaifutdinov, the former head of the department of the Main Directorate for the Support of the Activities of the RF IC was appointed head of this Directorate.
