Putin claims to know who attacked Russian military base in Syria

Russia knows who is behind the provocation directed at her military facilities in Syria, Vladimir Putin said in a meeting with the chief editors of the newspapers and information agencies.

He explained that directly before the start of the meeting, he discussed the situation in Syria on the phone with his Turkish colleague Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and expressed confidence that Ankara has nothing to do with the attempted attack on the Russian military facilities.

“This doesn’t mean that someone was causing provocation there, I mean the Turkish partners. There were provocateurs there, but not the Turks, and we know them,” the President said.
The President added that he knows whom and how much “they paid for this provocation”.

According to Putin, the attack on the Russian military facilities had been planned carefully.

“As for the attacks themselves, we have no doubt that they were well prepared, we know when and where these drones came from, and how many of them there are,” the president stated. He observed that the drones used in the attack were camouflaged to look like handicraft production.

“In actual fact, it is obvious that there are elements of a high-tech character there – the radar and guidance systems, the ammunition jettison systems,” Putin said.

On the evening of January 6, the Russian military in Syria repelled an attack of militant-launched drones, which were intended to strike the Khmeimim airbase and the logistics point in Tartus.
