Poroshenko urges U.S. Congress to increase aid to Ukraine
President Petro Poroshenko held a meeting with a delegation of the U.S. Congress led by Harold Rogers, the head of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations, as reported on the web site of the Ukrainian President.
Poroshenko called for considering the possibility of increasing appropriations for assistance programs for Ukraine related to security issues, including the provision of defense-related weapons and the treatment and rehabilitation of Ukrainian servicemen.
The members of the U.S. Congress gave their assurance that they will continue to support Ukraine both politically and financially in its struggle to restore sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as in the reform efforts of the Ukrainian authorities.
The President also expressed his hope for the congressmen’s support in Ukraine’s efforts to obtain official recognition from the United States of the Holodomor genocide in 1932-1933.
Since 2014, the U.S. has spent $600 million in training Ukrainian military servicemen and on material and technical assistance.
