Poroshenko thanks Trump for financial assistance to Ukraine
In a post on his Facebook page, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said that he believes that an increase in spending on Ukraine's support in the US budget for 2018 is a "powerful and timely signal" and a real practical help to strengthen the defense potential of the country.
"I am grateful to President Donald Trump and the US Congress for supporting the budget bill, which provides for an increase in spending on Ukraine's support in 2018, confirming the United States' leading role in protecting the key principles of freedom and democracy," he wrote.
According to Poroshenko, the adoption of the new US budget is, in particular, "a powerful and timely signal, which once again proved the unchanging bipartisan support for Ukraine's progress towards democratic changes."
"The most effective way to stop the aggressor is to assure him of readiness to a worthy defense and ability to repel any attack," the president said.
On March 23, US President Donald Trump signed $ 1.3 trillion US budget for 2018, which also provides for $620 million aid to Ukraine.
