President Poroshenko promises to cover ammunition needs of the Ukrainian Army
The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko announced that the tests of 152-mm shells for the Giatsint artillery system have been completed and that the news shells will be sent to the Ukrainian Army. “Now, the state joint-stock holding company Artem will start serial production of 152-mm shells for supply to Ukraine’s Armed Forces,” Ukrainian President wrote on his Facebook page.
The next step will be the quick transition to the manufacturing of shells for other artillery systems, from 100-mm to NATO caliber 155-mm. “We continue strengthening the defense capability of the Ukrainian army,” the President concluded.
In early August, at the Artem factory in Kyiv, Poroshenko launched the industrial production of large caliber artillery shells for Giatsint systems. The President stated that the equipment for new production was supplied to the Ukrainian factory by Turkey and other countries.
Later, the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, Oleksandr Turchynov stated that Ukrainian engineers were carrying out tests of the new 155 mm self-propelled howitzer that should become a “powerful weapon”, which has no counterpart in Russia. The weapon was called Bohdana and Turchynov warned that “enemies of Kyiv” should remember this name.
