Polish Ambassador to Ukraine: Warsaw shares Kyiv's position on the necessity of studying the Ukrainian language

The Polish ambassador to Ukraine, Jan Pieklo, announced a meeting of the Education Ministers of Ukraine and Poland to discuss the provisions of the new Ukrainian law on education, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

"Such a meeting is planned. We consider it necessary to hold such consultations at the Minister level, and include the Minister of Education of Ukraine, Hrynevych, and the Minister of Education of Poland," the ambassador said.

In answering the journalists' question about the attitude of the Poles to the language provisions in the Ukrainian law on education, the Polish diplomat specified that Warsaw shares Kyiv's position on the necessity of studying the Ukrainian language, but also considers it necessary to ensure the possibility of studying native languages by national minorities.

He also stressed the need for bilateral dialogue on this issue.

"We just need to talk among ourselves and to clarify some points," Pieklo added.

Previously, Hungary’s Foreign Minister, Peter Szijjarto, stated that Budapest would require the European Union to impose sanctions against Ukraine unless the new law on education was revoked.
