Poland creates new military division to counter the threat from the East

A new division of troops has been established in eastern Poland, said Poland’s Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak, reported Polskie Radio .

The Minister took part in the ceremony of transition to the 18th Mechanized Division of the 1st Warsaw armored Brigade and the 21st Brigade.

General Jarosław Gromadziński, Commander of the 18th Division, noted the combat potential of the new tactical unit and its NATO command structure.

"This division is located in eastern Poland because today the threat is coming precisely from there. It’s not a surprise that NATO focuses its special effort on the Eastern flank,"- said Gromadziński, reminding about the deployment of multinational battalions in the region.

"In a few days it will be 80 years since the attack of our neighbors [Germany] on Poland. Another division of Poland happened based on Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact. It’s our duty to remember about this event and commemorate those who suffered from this brutal occupation which was committed by both Germans and Russians. But it’s also our duty to make sure that these 80-year-old events do not happen again and Polish Army will ensure it", - noted the Minister.

He also added that the Polish army has to be strong because of the number of troops, modern equipment and membership in NATO.

On June13, Polish President Andrzej Duda and U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington signed Joint Declaration on Defense Cooperation Regarding United States Force Posture in the Republic of Poland.
