Ovechkin expresses his intention to start a new social movement in support of Putin
Alexander Ovechkin, the Russian winger of the National Hockey League club Washington Capitals announced that he is creating the "Putin Team" social movement.
"I'm sure that there are a lot of us who support Vladimir Putin! So, let's unite and show everyone a strong and united Russia! Today, I want to announce that I am creating a social movement called Putin Team," the athlete wrote Instagram.
According to him, "only a team is capable of changing the tide of the game." However, the hockey player did not specify what exactly he would change and which game he meant.
Dmitry Peskov, the Press Secretary of the Russian President told TASS news agency that Putin does not yet know about Ovechkin's initiative and the creation of the Putin Team social movement.
Earlier, Ovechkin repeatedly made statement in support of Putin. He appeared in public in a T-shirt with the image of the president. In July 2017, Peskov said that the president presented Ovechkin and model Anastasia Shubskaya with a tea set as a wedding gift.
