Ukrainian representative in the UN accused Russia of supporting terrorism

The Russian Federation has been conducting subversive activities against Ukraine for more than two years, according to the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations (UN), Volodymyr Yelchenko. He said this on Wednesday during a meeting of the UN Security Council.

“For more than two years, Ukraine has been a victim of aggression by its neighbor, the Russian Federation. Russia has occupied, and  illegally annexed, the Ukrainian territories of Crimea and Sevastopol. It continues its hostile and subversive activities by supporting terrorism in the Donbas,” Yelchenko said, as reported by Ukrinform.

According to him, Moscow is using a variety of technologies of hybrid warfare as they seek to promote the ideology of the “Russian world”.

“This neo-imperialist ideology allows and facilitates violations of international law, human rights and the commitment of serious crimes including acts of terrorism,” Yelchenko continued. “We believe that the most dangerous situations arise when such manipulations occur at the level of state policy. According to international law, states are obliged to refrain from participating in such activities and they are also obliged to prevent acts of terrorism,” he added.

He also urged the international community to focus on eliminating the proliferation of violent extremism and terrorism in social, economic, cultural, religious and other sectors.

“There is a need to combat these phenomena as the state’s propaganda of intolerance and hatred, as well as the use of information warfare. These are the means of a hybrid war,” Yelchenko concluded.
